eScription Customers Save More Than One Million Dollars In Medical Transcription Costs; Seven Organizations Join Million Dollar Club
May 20, 2005 (Boston, MA)
eScription, Inc, the leader in Computer Aided Medical Transcription (CA-MT) software, announced today that seven of its customers achieved cost savings in medical transcription of more than $1 million using the company's EditScript solution. These organizations received the company's Million Dollar Award, which was presented at eScription's annual User Meeting on May 12-13, 2005. Recipients included: Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (Boston, MA), Health Alliance (Cincinnati, OH), Maine Medical Center (Portland, ME), Brigham and Women's Hospital (Boston, MA), Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates (Boston, MA), Solaris Health System (Edison, NJ) and UNC Health Care (Chapel Hill, NC).
The EditScript solution, which ranked #1 in the Dictation, Transcription and Speech Recognition category by KLAS Enterprises (2004 Best in KLAS Award; www.healthcomputing.com), is designed exclusively to help organizations save costs in medical transcription by increasing transcriptionist productivity. Based on the simple premise that it is faster to edit than to type, EditScript software uses intelligent speech recognition to produce formatted first draft documents from clinician dictations, which are then quickly edited by medical transcriptionists (MTs) instead of typed from scratch. Typically, MTs achieve 100% productivity gains within one year. With this enterprise-wide solution, customers can select to use either in-house MT staff or outsourced MTs, domestic or offshore.
Dr. John D. Halamka, CIO of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and luncheon speaker at the eScription User Meeting stated, "eScription has provided a strategically important solution for electronic medical records systems. Not only has our organization avoided more than $1 million in transcription costs, but we have reduced turnaround time by 82%, improved document distribution through integration with our Online Medical Record, and increased the consistency of our documents, which will support the continued move toward electronic patient information."
"From a clinician perspective, the eScription solution succeeds because it delivers the benefits of reduced turnaround time and cost, yet has very little impact on clinician workflow," commented Dr. Robert Goldszer, Associate Chief Medical Officer at Brigham and Women's Hospital. "Our hospital has saved nearly $2 million in medical transcription costs by taking advantage of eScription technology and outsourced transcription services."
"Our cost-savings model involved reducing the use of outsourced MTs for overflow work, as our internal MT staff became increasingly productive," stated HIM Director, John Avedian, at Maine Medical Center. "Our MTs now prefer editing, both because it is less straining physically and because it values MT's medical language knowledge more than their typing. Our success is about the willingness of our MT staff to embrace the technology and continue to work with it to become more productive. We share this award with our MT staff."
The two day eScription 2005 User Advisory Meeting brought together more than 65 HIM Directors and Transcription Supervisors who are responsible for the implementation and operation of EditScript in their health care organizations nationwide. The meeting involved Educational Sessions, New Product Demonstrations, and a full day Product Advisory Meeting during which time representatives provided input to eScription for enhancements that would help them use the product more productively and effectively.
The company's EditScript solution received a 2004 Year-End Best in KLAS Award ranking #1 in the Dictation, Transcription and Speech Recognition Category based on nationwide surveys with customers. Supporting the #1 ranking of EditScript, the KLAS report indicated that 100% of respondents would buy EditScript again, and 100% would recommend EditScript to a peer.
"I am honored to congratulate our Million Dollar Award winners for 2005," said Ben Chigier, CEO of eScription. "The cost savings and operational successes they have achieved validate our company's goals and focus. I would also like to acknowledge the individuals of the Million Dollar Club who are dedicated to delivering high quality medical records services, and who make the EditScript solution work effectively enterprise-wide in a variety of health care environments".
