eScription Solution for Computer Aided Medical Transcription Drives Million Dollar Cost Savings for Customers
Six Organizations Receive 2006 Million Dollar Savings Award; Three Organizations Receive New Productivity Award by Achieving More than 125% Productivity
July 24, 2006 (Boston, MA) - eScription, Inc, the leader in Computer Aided Medical Transcription (CAMT) software, announced today that six of its customers received the company's 2006 Million Dollar Award, which was presented at the annual eScription User Meeting in May. To receive an award, a healthcare organization must achieve a new level of 'million dollar cost savings,' starting with $1 million. Currently, 40% of eScription customers who have used the company's EditScriptMT solution for more than two years are members of the Million Dollar Club.
eScription CEOs, Ben Chigier and Paul Egerman, presented awards to customers Piedmont Healthcare (Atlanta, GA) and Akron General Hospital (Akron, OH), which joined the Million Dollar Club this year with savings of more than $1 million. Other 2006 award winners included Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (Boston, MA) which demonstrated savings of over $2 million, and Brigham and Women's Hospital (Boston, MA) and UNC Health Care (Chapel Hill, NC) which each exceeded $3 million in savings. Health Alliance (Cincinnati, OH) was recognized for its achievement of $4 million in transcription cost savings since switching to the EditScript system.
The EditScript solution, which ranked #1 in the Dictation, Transcription and Speech Recognition category by KLAS Enterprises (2005 Best in KLAS Award; www.healthcomputing.com), is designed exclusively to help organizations save costs in medical transcription by increasing transcriptionist productivity. Based on the simple premise that it is faster to edit than to type, EditScript software uses intelligent speech recognition to produce formatted draft documents from clinician dictations, which are then quickly edited by medical transcriptionists (MTs) instead of typed from scratch. Typically, MTs achieve 100% productivity gains within one year. With this enterprise-wide solution, healthcare organizations can use either in-house MT staff or outsourced MTs, domestic or offshore.
In addition, eScription acknowledged the success of three customers with a new Productivity Award. This award was presented to organizations whose in-house MT staffs achieved productivity gains of more than 125 percent, producing more than twice as many lines by editing than by traditional transcription. The Productivity Award winners honored at the conference include: New England Baptist Hospital (Boston, MA), HealthEast Care System (St. Paul, MN) and Washington County Hospital (Hagerstown, MD).
Mr. James Walsh, Director, Application Development, Financial and Administrative Systems at UNC Health Care opened the eScription User Meeting with his keynote address covering the integration of Computer Aided Medical Transcription with the EMR. "We have been using eScription software since 2003, along with two outsourced medical transcription service organizations that perform the editing tasks. Since our implementation, we have saved more than two million dollars in transcription costs, not to mention the improved centralization of our transcription processes, and improved standardization of our clinical reports."
"Akron General Hospital has saved more than one million dollars in medical transcription costs by using EditScript to improve transcription productivity," stated Cindy Donelan, Director Health Information Management. "Our primarily in-house staff receives draft documents from the speech recognition system, which they then quickly review and edit, instead of typing. The MTs like it a lot, and we have been able to handle a significant increase in transcription volume without expanding our staff."
"Every year it is gratifying both to welcome new members into the Million Dollar Club, and acknowledge those that continue to reach new million dollar levels of savings," stated Ben Chigier, CEO of eScription. "We designed our solution so that our speech recognition engine would continually improve, while MTs working on the system would become more productive, both as a result of the improved speech recognition and the new features we provide to them. Continual improvement is at the heart of our technology that drives significant productivity gains and cost savings for our customers. I am delighted to acknowledge the individuals of the Million Dollar Club, who use the EditScript solution every day, and strive to maximize the results they can achieve."
