eScription Enhances Speech Recognition Software;
AutoScript Version 7 is Fully Deployed and Operational

July 20, 2007 (Boston, Ma) eScription, Inc., the leader in Computer Aided Medical Transcription, announced today that Version 7 of its AutoScript background speech recognition software is in general release and has been fully deployed to all customers. The new version includes powerful engine advancements in speed and accuracy to help healthcare organizations further improve productivity in medical transcription, reduce turnaround time and save costs. With the release of AutoScript Version 7, eScriptions software is comprised entirely of proprietary algorithms that have been developed internally at eScription, many of which are patent-pending.  eScription has completely separated from Carnegie Mellon’s open source Sphinx.

Developed under the code name St. George, after the legendary dragon slayer, AutoScript Version 7 achieves breakthrough milestones in speech recognition processing. This version processes clinicians’ dictations twice as fast than the previous version, which helps reduce document turnaround time. In addition, because of the improvements in draft quality, customers will experience significant productivity gains.

Within the eScription integrated product suite for clinical documentation, the AutoScript speech recognition software automatically creates formatted draft documents from clinician dictations with the primary goal of significantly improving medical transcriptionists (MT) productivity. The product is engineered entirely for medical transcription, not adapted from generic speech recognition software. After the drafts are created, they are quickly reviewed and edited by MTs using the eScription transcription product, EditScript. Based on the preference of the healthcare organization, the MTs may work in-house or for an outsourced service provider.

Unlike other speech recognition products, AutoScript uses a unique interpretative approach that produces formatted text based on what the dictating clinicians mean to say, even if it is not exactly what is spoken. For example, when a clinician says the word “next”, the reference may be to ‘3’ in a numbered list, the actual word ‘next’, or it may mean to start the next section. An intelligent speech recognition engine, AutoScript continues to learn and improve based on corrections made by MTs as they review and edit the documents. The AutoScript software requires no training or change to clinician dictation.

“AutoScript Version 7 culminates many years of internal development here at eScription, researching new ideas, some that worked out very well and some that didn’t,” stated eScription CEO, Ben Chigier. “We are proud to announce this new version at a time when it is fully operational with our customers, and already delivering benefits to them.
