eScription Releases Version 8 of its Software Designed to Improve Productivity and Administration of Medical Transcription
April 15, 2008 (Boston, MA) — eScription, Inc., the leader in Computer Aided Medical Transcription, announced today that Version 8 of its software products for clinical documentation are in general release. Healthcare organizations are already benefiting from dozens of new capabilities in the product suite, including voice capture, background speech recognition, transcription, document distribution, and electronic signature.
“Version 8 brings our customers a great number of valuable new features and enhancements,” stated Rob Titemore, Director of Product Development at eScription. “The release offers a robust set of products, along with a streamlined means of installing and upgrading customers.”
Improved Interface for MTs
Version 8 of the transcription product, EditScript™, includes a re-architected
interface for patient demographic data that is streamlined for easier use by medical transcriptionists (MTs) as they review and edit draft documents. An improved, compact display enables ‘mouse-free’ navigation across the screen. In addition, a new account pre-search capability instantly provides the most likely results allowing MTs to make correct selections quickly.
Enhanced Administrative Capabilities
The administrative console for all products, known as EMon®, offers a variety of new features that simplify and speed medical records administration. In Version 8 a new Document Distribution Management Tool provides administrators with improved search capabilities and more powerful tools for prioritizing and managing document printing, faxing, and email. Further, an enhanced Dictation Search lets supervisors save and reuse searches and take advantage of quick, relative data ranges such as ‘last week.’
Several new features provide expanded options for administrators to configure their own systems. The enhanced eAlert feature lets users customize their email notifications, including when and to whom emails are sent, for instance automatically alerting an MTSO to start working as a result of a certain backlog. Should an interface ‘restart’ be needed, this can now be handled directly from the administrative console.
“The EditScript user interface is much improved in Version 8, putting all the relevant work type and demographic information in front of the transcriptionists in a clear and compact manner, reducing the potential for errors such as choosing incorrect visits,” said Steve Griffin, Assistant Director, HIMS Transcription, FirstHealth of the Carolinas. “I’m very happy with the new features in EMon such as the ability to create work types and having more control over interface management and distribution of documents. We are a very hands-on department, believing that the more options we have within applications, the more efficiently we can use them to accomplish our goal of managing information. eScription most definitely listens to its customers and takes their input seriously,” he added.
Improvements to Background Speech Recognition
With the Version 8 release of eScription’s background speech recognition engine, AutoScript™, customers experienced both higher yields – the amount of dictation that is successfully speech recognized to produce drafts for editing – and higher productivity – the increased rate of editing versus traditional transcription. The Version 8 software release, in effect, provided broader coverage of clinician dictation with background speech recognition and better drafts, enabling faster completion of documents.
“We are grateful for our customers’ guidance as we develop and release new software,” stated Ben Chigier, CEO of eScription. “Our goal of continually improving software for our customers assures them that they are always getting the best tools available to help them manage clinical documentation and support patient care.”
Across the product line, many other improvements in Version 8 have been introduced, including:
- Enhanced MT workflows
- Improved electronic signature interface for clinicians
- New fax capabilities
- Expanded auditing features
- Configurable feature console
- Support for USB foot pedals
- Support for Windows Vista and Microsoft Word 2007
