eScription Trains 1000 Transcription Professionals in 2007; Users Gain Skills to Improve Installations, Productivity and Workflow
January 4, 2008 (Boston, MA) — eScription, the pioneer and leader in Computer Aided Medical Transcription, announced today that in 2007 its Training Department reached a milestone of training 1000 Medical Transcriptionists (MTs) and Transcription Administrators to use eScription software. This achievement highlights the company’s increasing focus on the training component of its product offerings, ensuring that users take full advantage of features and best practices that deliver efficiency and quality in clinical documentation. Of the 1000 individuals trained, 26 went on to train hundreds of additional MTs on their staffs.
Kathy Robbins a Medical Transcriptionist at Aurora Medical Group in Wisconsin, received the honor of being the one thousandth participant instructed by eScription in 2007. This year eScription has trained 746 people at customer sites, 193 people via the web and 61 people at eScription University, the company’s program of open enrollment courses conducted at its corporate training facility in Needham, MA.
eScription provides award-winning background speech recognition software and transcription products to large healthcare organizations. Using patented technology, eScription software produces accurate, formatted first drafts of clinicians’ dictations that MTs subsequently review and edit instead of typing from scratch. In training, MTs learn to transition from traditional transcription to editing using a variety of ‘shortcut’ keystrokes that increase productivity. Administrators learn to prepare their organizations for the installation process, and to use administrative software that helps them manage workflows, security, reporting, and other functions.
eScription offers training both to its healthcare organization customers and to the MTSOs that may be selected by these organizations to do editing for them. Thousands of MTs use the company’s software every day to handle the more than one billion lines of transcription processed annually by eScription for its customers. A recent participant in a new introductory training class, Ellen Hewitt RHIA, Director, HIM Department of Cook Children’s Hospital, in Fort Worth, TX, commented, “I am glad eScription factored this training class into the implementation process. The information I learned will help us be better prepared for the installations, and ultimately use the software with greater success.”
“A sincere dedication to improving clinical documentation must include an element of how best to use the software, stated Arthur Harrington, Manager of Training and Documentation at eScription. “The editing and administrative skills we teach help drive the benefits our customers are looking for – consistent quality, increased productivity, cost savings, and shorter turnaround times. Through training we hope to accelerate the learning curve, and develop and reinforce good work habits.”
In addition to the training sessions offered in conjunction with new installations, the company offers continuous improvement classes through eScription University. This program was designed to help healthcare organizations and MTSOs address changes in staff, and continue to enhance product proficiency. eScription University classes are approved for Continuing Education Credits by AHDI and AHIMA. “Training 1000 people this year represents an exciting milestone for us,” said Ben Chigier, eScription CEO. “Our customers understand there is a lot to gain in terms of significantly lower costs and shorter turnaround times when they switch from traditional transcription to CAMT, and they want their users to be as prepared and as skilled as possible. Our Training team enjoys helping MTs and Administrators master product features and best practices, and seeing the improvements that come about as a result.”
