The Health Alliance of Greater Cincinnati Expands
Relationship with eScription to Save Costs in Radiology Transcriptions
June 21, 2004 (Boston, MA) - eScription, Inc., the leader
in Computer Aided Medical Transcription (CA-MT) software announced
today that The Health Alliance of Greater Cincinnati has expanded
its use of products from eScription to include dictated radiology
reports. This roll-out follows the successful operation of eScription's
solution in the corporate transcription department for the Health
Alliance, a health system of six hospitals in the greater Cincinnati
area.
Installed initially in 2001, the eScription solution known as EditScript
has enabled the Health Alliance to double the productivity of its
medical transcriptionists (MTs), with some MTs achieving a three-fold
increase in lines per hour. As a result, the corporate transcription
department has successfully controlled costs while meeting an increased
demand for its services.
The EditScript solution from eScription is based on the simple
premise that it is faster to edit than to type. Physicians dictate
as usual, but instead of having their dictations typed from scratch,
EditScript creates accurate and fully formatted first drafts that
MTs quickly review and edit. At the heart of EditScript, CA-MT software
focuses on: converting medical dictations to text; interpreting
and formatting the draft records; and providing an efficient editing
interface for MTs. This combination of technologies is designed
exclusively to improve transcription productivity in the medical
enterprise.
"The roll-out of EditScript for radiologists has already generated
positive results," stated Sherry Doggett, Director of Corporate
Transcription at the Health Alliance. "We are very happy with how
quickly dictations from the radiologists are processed through the
system and with the rapid increase in transcription productivity
for that group"
"Many of our physicians had tried real-time speech recognition
products that forced them to alter the way they dictated. It was
critical to me that this solution was absolutely transparent to
our clinicians," Ms. Doggett continued. "The fact that our transcriptionists
are doubling their productivity is a direct result of the high quality
of the first drafts produced through EditScript, both in terms of
content and formatting."
The EditScript solution has helped decrease the turnaround time
of transcription at the Health Alliance. Prior to the installation,
increased volume had been lengthening turnaround time, putting the
corporate department under additional strain. "With the eScription
system in place, the corporate transcription team is well within
its prescribed times and physicians are much happier," Ms. Doggett
said.
